What a 2-Day Zagora Trip Is (and Isn't)
Zagora sits in the Draa Valley, close enough to Marrakech for a one-night trip. You get the Atlas crossing, Aït Benhaddou, palm groves, a short camel ride and a night at a desert camp.
What you do not get is the tall sea of sand most people picture. The dunes near Zagora are small and patchy compared with Erg Chebbi at Merzouga. If big dunes are the whole point, read Merzouga vs Zagora before booking.
The Route
- Day 1: Marrakech over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, a stop at Aït Benhaddou, then through Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley to Zagora, with a camel ride to camp around sunset.
- Day 2: sunrise at camp, then the drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the evening.
The Camp Night and the Costs
Zagora camps are generally simple: a tent with beds or mattresses, shared bathrooms, dinner and breakfast, and music in the evening.
Lunches, drinks and tips are often extra. Because the trip has one night and no hotel stop, it usually costs less than a 3-day tour, but the cost per hour of desert is higher once you account for the driving.

Who Should Choose Zagora
- You have exactly two days and want a night in a desert camp.
- The journey through the Atlas, Aït Benhaddou and the Draa Valley matters as much to you as the dunes.
- You have already seen large dunes elsewhere and want a taste of southern Morocco.
If you can find a third day, the 3-day Merzouga tour is usually the better use of the driving.
